Wickersley Youth FC 2003/2004 Campaign

Wickersley youth Under-16s capped a memorable season by lifting the “Sheffield & Hallemshire Youth Challenge Cup” on Easter Sunday.

Having claimed the “Sheffield and District Junior Sunday League Trophy” with a 6-1 victory over Greasbrough seven days earlier, Wickersley then thrashed Heeley Boys 13-1 in midweek and over-hauled Rotherham Juniors on goal difference for the D Division title.

And the 3-0 Challenge Cup triumph over an impressive Killamarsh Dynamos side sealed a remarkable campaign for the team managed by Ian “Danny” Daniel and Kevin McGowan.

Two first half goals from Karl Harrison gave Wickersley a much needed advantage as they kicked down the famous slope at Sandygate.

Killamarsh were never out of it and posed a threat throughout.

But with goalkeeper Joe Daniel maintaining the form he has shown all season and central defender Jason Manley dominant at the back, Wickersley clinched the TREBLE in style when Phil Roberts grabbed his 50^th goal of the campaign.

As a parent and supporter of Wickersley Youth I can say that without doubt that through the campaign of 2003/2004 that this club lifted me to the heights I never thought possible and I would like to thank everyone who was involved with the team and also those behind the scenes – THANK YOU.
